or get creative with your selection
from the references provided for
more experienced painters. All watercolor

member and have an artful time!
Bring your love of art and wine to
this exciting series of
four workshops at Kirkland Arts
Center. Each 3 hour workshop
pairs a different art medium with a
unique wine selection. Watercolor
is, on June 1, our second session's
featured media. We will gather on
the main floor in the cozy
atmosphere of the gallery where you
will be treated to snacks, wine and
the fine instruction of an

John
Singer Sargent: Workshop
Watercolor
| Spring
with Michele Cooper
Kirkland Arts Center
Aug 10 & 11, 2013
Saturday
and Sunday
9:00am - 5:00
pm
John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was an
American painter by birth-right. He loved
his country yet he spent most of his life in
Europe. He was the most celebrated
portraitist of his time but left it at the
very height of his fame to devote full time
to landscape painting, more than 2,000
watercolors and public art. "To live with
Sargent's watercolours is to live with
sunshine captured and held, with the luster
of a bright and legible world, ‘the refluent
shade’ and ‘the Ambient ardours of the
noon.’ (Evan Edward Charteris)
This workshop will focus on what
contemporary skills can be learned from
Sargent's watercolors. Learn his tricks with
wax and gouache. Lessons on brushwork,
values, contrast, drawing and more will help
you energize your work with expressive
confidence.

Watercolor
- Think Like Winslow Homer
August 18 & 19, 2012
Saturday
&
Sunday
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Watercolor: Think Like
Winslow Homer | Summer Workshop
Learn to express the character of landscape
subjects in a loose, yet controlled way.
Apply the techniques of Winslow Homer with a
contemporary twist. Winslow Homer was one of the
first great American artists to paint ordinary
things...everyday scenes like trees blowing in the
wind, waves splashing on the seashore, or hunters
in the back country.
This workshop combines an abundance of reference
material about Homer, demonstrations and practical
application of watercolor techniques to get
effects like his, and photo references for you to
use in painting your own version of similar
subjects. Weather permitting, you will be able to
take some reference photos of your own from local
"Homer type" subjects. You may even surprise
yourself by including Homer-like figures in your
watercolors!
The two day format provides adequate time for
instructor demonstrations, personal painting,
group critiques and one-on-one instruction.
Prerequisite: All levels
welcome, however it helps to have a
little drawing and watercolor experience.
Returning students welcome for continued
study. Supply list provided.
